Otten-Grillo Residence

Portland, Oregon

This renovation created a large, bright, gourmet kitchen designed for entertaining out of a small, dark and dated room. An adjacent laundry room was reworked to reclaim space. A bank of suspended cabinets was removed to reconnect to the dining room. Key to the contemporary character, numerous types and combinations of lighting were introduced to enhance atmosphere and usability. Custom-made to be efficient and functional; the cabinetry, counters, and islands also encourage gathering, seating and socializing of guests. The materials, colors and lines reinforce a simple, straightforward, spacious aesthetic to serve as an unobtrusive backdrop for social and culinary experiences.
