Sandstrom Residence
Portland, Oregon
The clients wanted to open up and enlarge their existing kitchen to accommodate a large seating island and to provide a view of their property and increase day-lighting. The existing kitchen was removed and interior partitions were replaced with a 30 foot long steel beam to create the desired open plan. New cabinets, counters, appliances and lighting were specified, and hardwood floors were extended from the living space into the new kitchen. Large skylights and a new bow window at the sink further expand the space. Creative Beth Stanton touches include a mosaic tile backsplash with niche at corner cook top, efficient cabinetry layout tailored to client needs, and a dramatic seating island featuring a custom Amber glass top by a local glass artist.
